Abstract

BACKGROUND

Several animal studies have shown the roles of cytokines in regulating liver regeneration following liver resection (LR), which is a type of surgery designed to remove cancerous tumors from the liver. This study investigated how the expressions and serum levels of some pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were changed during LR.

METHODS

Liver tissues from 15 patients with HCC were collected and the levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-), IL-1, IL-1 , IL-10, and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-1) were assessed using real-time PCR assay at different times before and after LR. The serum values of TNF- and IL-6 were also measured by ELISA.

RESULTS

After 60 and 90 minutes of LR, IL-6 gene expression was significantly increased ( < 0.001 - 0.05). The same trend was also observed in TNF- expression after 90 minutes of LR ( < 0.01). No significant changes were observed in the expressions of IL-1, IL-1, IL-10, and TGF-1 before and after LR. In addition, LR had significant effects on TNF- and IL-6 serum levels ( < 0.05 - 0.0001).

CONCLUSION

Our data provided further evidence to reveal that IL-6 and TNF- cytokines are critical to improve liver regeneration.

背景

结果

LR 后 60 和 90 分钟,IL-6 基因表达显著增加(<0.001-0.05)。LR 后 90 分钟,TNF-α的表达也呈现相同的趋势(<0.01)。LR 前后,IL-1β、IL-1ra、IL-10 和 TGF-β1 的表达无明显变化。此外,LR 对 TNF-α和 IL-6 的血清水平有显著影响(<0.05-0.0001)。

结论

我们的数据进一步提供了证据,表明 IL-6 和 TNF-α细胞因子对改善肝再生至关重要。
