Abstract

Quercetin (QUR) is a natural bioactive flavonoid that has been lately very studied for its beneficial properties in many pathologies. Its neuroprotective effects have been demonstrated in many studies, as well as animal experiments and human trials. QUR protects the organism against neurotoxic chemicals and also can prevent the evolution and development of neuronal injury and neurodegeneration. The present work aimed to summarize the literature about the neuroprotective effect of QUR using known database sources. Besides, this review focuses on the assessment of the potential utilization of QUR as a complementary or alternative medicine for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases. An up-to-date search was conducted in PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar for published work dealing with the neuroprotective effects of QUR against neurotoxic chemicals or in neuronal injury, and in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Findings suggest that QUR possess neuropharmacological protective effects in neurodegenerative brain disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Amyloid β peptide, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In summary, this review emphasizes the neuroprotective effects of QUR and its advantages in being used in complementary medicine for the prevention and treatment o of different neurodegenerative diseases.

槲皮素(QUR)是一种天然生物活性黄酮类化合物,近年来因其在多种病症中的有益特性而受到广泛研究。其神经保护作用已在许多研究以及动物实验和人体试验中得到证实。QUR可保护机体免受神经毒性化学物质的侵害,还能预防神经元损伤和神经退行性变的进展与发展。本研究旨在利用已知数据库来源总结有关QUR神经保护作用的文献。此外,本综述重点评估QUR作为预防和治疗神经退行性疾病的补充或替代药物的潜在用途。我们在PubMed、Science Direct和谷歌学术上进行了最新搜索,以查找已发表的关于QUR对神经毒性化学物质的神经保护作用、在神经元损伤中的作用以及在神经退行性疾病治疗中的作用的研究。研究结果表明,QUR在神经退行性脑部疾病如阿尔茨海默病、淀粉样β肽、帕金森病、亨廷顿病、多发性硬化症和肌萎缩侧索硬化症中具有神经药理学保护作用。总之,本综述强调了QUR的神经保护作用及其在用于预防和治疗不同神经退行性疾病的补充医学中的优势。
