Abstract

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are attractive in various fields of regenerative medicine due to their therapeutic potential and complex unique properties. Basic stem cell research and the global COVID-19 pandemic have given impetus to the development of cell therapy for infectious diseases. The aim of this review was to systematize scientific data on the applications of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and MSC-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) in the combined treatment of infectious diseases. Application of MSCs and MSC-EVs in the treatment of infectious diseases has immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects, and also promotes the restoration of the epithelium and stimulates tissue regeneration. The use of MSC-EVs is a promising cell-free treatment strategy that allows solving the problems associated with the safety of cell therapy and increasing its effectiveness. In this review, experimental data and clinical trials based on MSCs and MSC-EVs for the treatment of infectious diseases are presented. MSCs and MSC-EVs can be a promising tool for the treatment of various infectious diseases, particularly in combination with antiviral drugs. Employment of MSC-derived EVs represents a more promising strategy for cell-free treatment, demonstrating a high therapeutic potential in preclinical studies.

间充质干细胞(MSCs)因其治疗潜力和复杂独特的特性,在再生医学的各个领域都具有吸引力。基础干细胞研究和全球新冠疫情推动了传染病细胞疗法的发展。本综述的目的是系统整理关于间充质干细胞(MSCs)和间充质干细胞衍生的细胞外囊泡(MSC-EVs)在传染病联合治疗中应用的科学数据。MSCs和MSC-EVs在传染病治疗中的应用具有免疫调节、抗炎和抗菌作用,还能促进上皮修复并刺激组织再生。使用MSC-EVs是一种很有前景的无细胞治疗策略,能够解决与细胞疗法安全性相关的问题并提高其有效性。在本综述中,展示了基于MSCs和MSC-EVs治疗传染病的实验数据和临床试验。MSCs和MSC-EVs可能是治疗各种传染病的有前景的工具,特别是与抗病毒药物联合使用时。使用源自MSCs的EVs代表了一种更有前景的无细胞治疗策略,在临床前研究中显示出很高的治疗潜力。
