This study checked whether vitamin D (Vit-D) supplementation improves the efficacy of resistance training (RT) in terms of increasing muscle strength and lean body mass (LBM), and influencing cardiorespiratory fitness (VOmax) in Vit-D-deficient middle-aged healthy men.
Participants ( = 28) were quasi-randomly assigned to one of two groups, which, in a double-blind manner, supplemented their diet daily with either Vit-D (8000 IU; VD) or placebo (PLC) during participation in a 12-week supervised RT program.
During the intervention, serum Vit-D concentrations increased 2.6-fold ( < 0.001) in the VD group, while no changes occurred in the PLC group. Muscle strength gains ( < 0.001) as measured in seven exercises performed on RT equipment and increases ( < 0.001) in LBM were similar in the two groups. Total fat mass, percent total fat, and percent android fat decreased ( < 0.05) to a similar extent in both groups, but there was no change in VOmax in either group.
In conclusion, in healthy Vit-D-insufficient middle-aged men engaged in resistance training, Vit-D supplementation increases serum 25(OH)D levels but does not enhance gains in muscle strength and LBM, or decreases in fat mass and fat percentage, and does not affect cardiorespiratory fitness.

在干预期间,VD 组血清 Vit-D 浓度增加了 2.6 倍(<0.001),而 PLC 组没有变化。VD 组和 PLC 组在 RT 设备上进行的七项运动中肌肉力量的增加(<0.001)和 LBM 的增加(<0.001)相似。两组的总脂肪量、总脂肪百分比和安卓脂肪百分比均有相似程度的下降(<0.05),但 VOmax 均无变化。
综上所述,在进行抗阻训练的 Vit-D 不足的健康中年男性中,Vit-D 补充虽然能提高血清 25(OH)D 水平,但不能增强肌肉力量和 LBM 的增加,也不能降低脂肪量和脂肪百分比,且对心肺功能没有影响。
