Abstract

BACKGROUND

Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases. In spite of the global decrease in dental caries in the past decades, ECC has become a significant problem in many developing countries and also in a few industrialized nations. Saliva as a host factor can play an important role in the process of dental caries.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to compare sIgA and IgG as saliva components between ECC and caries-free groups.

METHODS

In this cross-sectional study, samples of unstimulated saliva of 90 children (45 in ECC group & 45 in caries-free group) were taken with Scully method. Then the concentration levels of sIgA and IgG were measured with Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay and Single Radial Immunodiffusion methods.

RESULTS

Mean concentration levels of salivary sIgA and IgG were significantly higher among children with ECC (p<0.05). There was also a weak inverse correlation between sIgA level and DMFT index in ECC group but it was not statistically significant (p=0.056).

CONCLUSION

The high concentration of salivary immunoglobulin in children with ECC may be associated with an increased antigenic load, leading to high production of antibodies.

背景

幼儿龋(ECC)是儿童最常见的慢性疾病之一。尽管在过去几十年中全球龋齿发病率有所下降,但ECC在许多发展中国家以及一些工业化国家已成为一个重大问题。唾液作为一种宿主因素,在龋齿形成过程中可发挥重要作用。

目的

本研究旨在比较ECC组和无龋组儿童唾液中分泌型免疫球蛋白A(sIgA)和免疫球蛋白G(IgG)这两种成分。

方法

在这项横断面研究中,采用斯库利法采集了90名儿童(ECC组45名,无龋组45名)未刺激唾液样本。然后采用酶联免疫吸附测定法和单向辐射免疫扩散法测定sIgA和IgG的浓度水平。

结果

ECC儿童唾液中sIgA和IgG的平均浓度水平显著更高(p<0.05)。ECC组中sIgA水平与龋失补牙面数(DMFT)指数之间也存在弱负相关,但无统计学意义(p=0.056)。

结论

ECC儿童唾液免疫球蛋白浓度较高可能与抗原负荷增加有关,从而导致抗体产生增加。
