Abstract

BACKGROUND

A variety of lasers have been used for the treatment of rosacea. However, treatment of this condition with long-pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser has not been reported yet.

OBJECTIVE

To assess the efficacy and safety of long-pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser in two different subtypes (erythematotelangiectatic and papulopustular) of rosacea.

METHODS

A total of 66 patients were enrolled in the study. All of the patients were treated with long-pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser with 3- to 4-week intervals. Rosacea severity score was assessed by using photographs. Improvement in severity was defined as the percentage reduction in severity scores from baseline to the end of treatment. Patients were also asked about their own opinions of improvement at the end of the treatment. Side effects were also documented.

RESULTS

Good to excellent improvement was achieved in up to 50 percent of the patients in the erythematotelangiectatic and papulopustular groups. Percent improvement of global severity was significantly greater in the erythematotelangiectatic patients than in the papulopustular patients. The majority of patients from both groups noted a significant improvement of the lesions. Hypopigmented atrophic scars were seen in two patients.

CONCLUSION

The long-pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser is a safe and effective treatment for vascular and inflammatory lesions of rosacea.

背景

评估长脉冲掺钕钇铝石榴石激光治疗两种不同亚型(红斑毛细血管扩张型和丘疹脓疱型)酒渣鼻的疗效和安全性。

方法

共有66例患者纳入本研究。所有患者均接受长脉冲掺钕钇铝石榴石激光治疗,间隔3至4周。通过照片评估酒渣鼻严重程度评分。严重程度的改善定义为从基线到治疗结束时严重程度评分的降低百分比。在治疗结束时,还询问了患者对自身改善情况的看法。同时记录副作用。

结果

红斑毛细血管扩张型和丘疹脓疱型组中高达50%的患者取得了良好至极佳的改善效果。红斑毛细血管扩张型患者的整体严重程度改善百分比显著高于丘疹脓疱型患者。两组中的大多数患者均指出皮损有显著改善。两名患者出现了色素减退性萎缩性瘢痕。

结论

长脉冲掺钕钇铝石榴石激光是治疗酒渣鼻血管性和炎症性皮损的一种安全有效的方法。
