To present evidence that systemic corticosteroid therapy may cause central serous chorioretinopathy.
A 20-year-old male with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura was examined during systemic treatment with corticosteroids (100 mg daily).
The patient had central serous chorioretinopathy. Spontaneous recovery accompanied discontinuation of the steroid treatment.
This case provides further evidence that cortisol may play a role in the development of central serous chorioretinopathy.
